I have always intended to teach Spanish as Second Language, I am passionate about what I do and I demonstrate it in each of my classes.
I believe that in a foreign language classroom motivation is the key. In my classroom, I use the latest methodologies, such as the task-based methodology or the action-oriented with a communicative approach to keep my students motivated. I also use teaching strategies that involve creativity, technology, and reflection leading them to know, understand and be able to communicate with other cultures. Teaching my native Spanish language allows me to share my culture and my own experience as a foreign language learner.
I believe that teaching is not a one-way delivery of knowledge, but instead an interactive process between both the student and the teacher. Over the years, I have created and perfected a student-centered learning environment in which I usually use cooperative and collaborative workgroups, allowing students to interact with their classmates and practice their reading, speaking, listening, and writing Spanish language skills. One of my main characteristics is that I don’t “teach from my chair”, by moving around the classroom and being creative and dynamic, I am able to give personal attention to each and every one of my students.
The methodologies and strategies that I implement in my class are a result of my teaching experience and interest in life-long learning. I am continuously preparing myself professionally and improving my teaching skills by attending educational conferences and courses.
As I said, I truly enjoy being a Spanish teacher and that for me is not just a job. I have always noticed an amazing difference between a teacher who treats it only as a job, and a teacher who teaches as part of them, a part of who they are.
The results I have seen in my students are quite positive. My students never forget the passion and energy I devote to their education and when I see the enthusiasm with which many of my students learn Spanish, I realize that a well-done job is rewarded, that is why teaching Spanish is my life.
